With news of The Dutton Ranch being delayed, fans of Yellowstone will have to wait longer for their favorite franchise to launch its next project. Created by Taylor Sheridan and John Linson, Yellowstone was a neo-Western drama show that was made for the Paramount Network and featured Kevin Costner, Kelly Reilly, and others. The series aired for 5 seasons from 2018 to 2024 and focused on the Dutton family, which owns the largest cattle ranch in Montana.
The drama show focused on family dynamics and the ups and downs that the family members face as they face conflicts from land developers and others. The show was a critical and commercial success and led to prequel shows like 1883 and 1923.
However, news has been confirmed via Screen Rant that the Beth and Rip-led The Dutton Ranch, a spinoff of Yellowstone, has shifted its release window.
The latest news regarding The Dutton Ranch release date
Previously expected to premiere this year, The Dutton Ranch is now slated to release in 2026. Apart from this spinoff, other spinoffs are also in the works that are a part of the Yellowstone world. One of these is The Madison, which is also without a release window and the other is Marshals, which will also air in 2026.
During the latest Paramount earnings call for Q2 of 2025, the studio laid out their plans for the rest of the year and the next year and that included shows by Taylor Sheridan. The Yellowstone spinoff, The Dutton Ranch, which was to release in November 2025, will not release in 2026, and no explanation has been given.
Some likely reasons for the delay of The Dutton Ranch
While the studio has not announced any reasons for the delayed release of the spinoff show in their earnings call, there seem to be a few reasons why the show will now air in 2026. One of the major reasons may be the merger between Skydance and Paramount, which has also seen delays in other projects by the studio, like South Park.
With the merger at hand, it seems that Paramount wants to make sure that its finances are handled before it produces new shows. According to Screen Rant, another reason in the fray is that Paramount wants to have the shows of Taylor Sheridan more equally spaced out. Many shows of Paramount are releasing in October and December and the new spinoff would have released during a crowded time period.
However, fans can rejoice in the fact that even though 2025 might not see any Yellowstone-based series, the next year will be more exciting. Marshals will air in 2026 on CBS and The Madison could also release in 2026. With The Dutton Ranch also releasing next year, 2026 will be a delight for Yellowstone fans.
