Emmerdale fans are convinced they know who is responsible for drugging Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) – and it isn’t Ella Forster (Paula Lane).

The Woolpack landlady was rushed to hospital after collapsing in recent scenes, where doctors revealed that she had taken an overdose.

Concerned partner Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) was quick to point the finger at Ella, who clearly has it in for Chas.

Things have been tense between the two women in recent days, after Ella caused a scene at Chas and Liam’s engagement party.

Ella and Liam have history, and it is clear she isn’t coping well with the doctor having moved on with Chas.

However, when the finger was pointed at Ella, she insisted that she was innocent, and though there was no evidence that she had drugged Chas, she was guilty of stealing her engagement ring.

While the Emmerdale villagers are sure that Ella was responsible, fans of the show disagree.

They believe that the actual culprit is Chas’ future son-in-law John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth).

It is no secret that Chas isn’t a huge fan of John, and with the newcomer set to marry her son Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller), fans are convinced he drugged her to get into her good books.

‘It was John. Then he could “find” Chas and save her,’ one fan wrote on Twitter/X, while another agreed: ‘I think it was John not Ella. He wants Chas to like him!’

‘I think John did it so he could save Chas,’ another said.

Other fans disagreed on John’s motives, with some believing he simply wanted Chas out of the way.

‘We all know it’s John that’s been drugging chas since she hates him. Needed to bump her off with an overdose quickly and he almost got away with it,’ one fan penned.

‘Hmmm my money’s on it being John because he overheard her warning Aaron at the engagement and John also looked pretty ticked off when he walked in on Aaron & Chas having lunch the other day. That John’s a ‘wrong un’,’ another speculated.

Are they right? Could John be responsible for drugging Chas? And what would that mean for Ella?
