Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas has broken his silence on returning to the ITV soap.
Earlier this week it was reported that Thomas would be reprising his role as Jason Grimshaw in Weatherfield, making a guest appearance as part of Sue Cleaver’s exit storyline.
In an interview with Daily Star, the actor revealed that he received a call from his on-screen mum hoping he’d come back to see Eileen Grimshaw off.
“I got the call from Sue Cleaver asking if I would come back for her exit, so I’m going to step onto the cobbles for five minutes,” he said.
“I’m excited,” he added of his return. “My kids weren’t alive when I was on Corrie, so it’ll be nice for them to see this. Maybe I will get to take my kids on the cobbles!”
Thomas first appeared on Coronation Street back in 2000 and played Jason for over 15 years, quitting the soap in 2016.
He revealed that he still feels “very loyal” to the soap, crediting it as “where my career started”.
“They taught me everything I know,” he said. “I wouldn’t be where I am now if it wasn’t for the show. That place will always have my respect.”
Sue Cleaver announced her decision to leave the soap in January after 25 years in the role of Eileen Grimshaw. Her final scenes are set to air this spring.
“The door is still firmly open but as I reached my 60th year I decided it was time to embrace change, look for new adventures and live fearlessly,” she said at the time in a statement.
