Coronation Street star Julia Goulding has spoken out on next week’s “really shocking” stunt.

The big scene will see David Platt and Daisy Midgeley hit by a car – the soap confirming that David had hired a hitman to take him out amid his mental struggles over son Max facing jail.

Daisy is unfortunately caught up in the incident, which is also witnessed by David’s wife Shona (played by Julia).

Speaking about the big moment, Julia explained that David is acting “really shifty” beforehand, and Shona is “quite suspicious”.

“Then as she’s driving down the street, she sees David standing in the middle of the road, and he is standing in the middle of the road, he’s not crossing like Daisy does – she’s obviously collateral damage in it all,” Julia revealed.

“So Shona stops the car and gets out, and she’s thinking, ‘What is he doing?’ And then bam, the car runs him over.”

The star said it was “fantastic” watching the stunt, while also praising the team, adding: “It was really shocking, actually, you kind of feel very nervous before you see it happen. So, yeah, she’s just completely – I mean, how can things get any worse? And they do.”

Despite her suspicions over David’s prior behavior, Shona puts that aside amid the emergency, saying that “from when the car hits him, her mind isn’t even working”.

“I think she’s just trying to keep him alive, or hope that he stays alive,” she said. “So I don’t think she’s really thinking too much about it.

“I think it will take a few days for her to process what had happened. We see if he survives or not, and then I think she can start to actually think about putting pieces together of the jigsaw puzzle.”

Shona also fears the worst, the star confirming there is “lots of blood”, while Julia further revealed why they tried to lighten the mood during filming.

“Obviously you’re switching from really serious stuff and then when the cameras aren’t rolling, you’re absolutely side-splitting laughing,” she added. “You have to really, when you have really sort of shocking, serious scenes to film.”

As for what happens going forward, the star teased: “Obviously, David’s going to be either dead or out of action – I can’t possibly say which. And we with Max’s sentencing and everything… she’s putting out fires rather than being the fire.”
