Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has revealed whether David and Shona Platt can get back to normal after their hellish few months.
The ITV soap has brought the Platt family’s latest storyline to an end over the past fortnight, as they finally secured the money to pay back dangerous gangster Harvey Gaskell.
David and Shona have faced terrifying threats while in Harvey’s debt, pushing their relationship to breaking point.
Earlier this week, Shona was able to transfer £40,000 to Harvey after blackmailing Daisy Midgeley for the cash.
Harvey appears to have backed off now that the debt is settled, as confirmed by David’s jailed stepson Max Turner when he made his final appearance for a phone call in Wednesday’s episode (March 12).
Speaking in a new chat with Digital Spy and other press, Jack was asked whether David and Shona can come back from the various challenges they’ve faced in recent months.
He laughed: “Yeah, of course! Of course they can, anyone can! That’s the beauty of soap.
“I think in a weird way, it’ll only make them stronger. I think Shona will realise that David has been stupid, but he was only doing it out of love.”
Last week, David desperately organised a hit on his own life so that Shona could cash in his life insurance and pay back Harvey that way.
David’s plan didn’t work out, as he survived the incident and pregnant Daisy was caught up in the chaos, leading to tragedy.
Jack added: “David wasn’t doing it out of being malicious or anything like that. It’s only because he loved his family so much, that he wanted them to be able to move on and have a happy life.
“The only way he could see them doing that is if Harvey was paid off, and the only way was if they could cash in on the insurance money.
“So, in a way, I think it will just really tell Shona that David really does love her.”
