After 40 incredible years on Coronation Street, Sally Dynevor, who plays the beloved Sally Metcalfe, is giving fans an update about her future on the iconic soap. Despite scaling down her appearances, Dynevor is reassuring viewers that she’s not ready to leave the cobbles anytime soon.
In a recent interview with Woman’s Weekly magazine, Dynevor opened up about her future on the show. While her character’s storyline has shifted to focus on fostering Lou and Mick Michaelis’ children, Sally’s presence on screen has reduced since 2023. But don’t worry — Sally’s not saying goodbye just yet. In fact, she has big plans to stick around for decades to come.
“I want to keep working, it’s good for my brain,” Dynevor said with a smile. “So, if they still want me, maybe I’ll be in the show in my 70s and 80s. I’ll just keep going.” If that doesn’t reassure fans, we don’t know what will!
Having first graced the cobbles as Sally Seddon at just 22 years old, Dynevor has been a key part of Coronation Street for over 40 years. The actress reflected on her longevity with gratitude, saying, “It’s such a great job and I feel very grateful I’ve still got it after 40 years.”
Even though she’s not featured as often as she used to be, Dynevor still feels at home when driving to set. “I drove in the other day, and as the barrier went up, I just had this huge smile because it felt like I was home. I knew I was going to have a fun day,” she shared.
Sally’s new storyline, in which she and her husband Tim are fostering Lou and Mick’s daughters Joanie and Shanice, has brought a refreshing new dynamic to her character. Dynevor shared that Sally initially wasn’t interested in fostering, but as the story developed, Sally began to realize the importance of what she could give to the girls.
“It’s a lovely story. It’s nice to show something good,” Dynevor said of the plot, adding that it’s a new chapter in Sally’s life after her own daughters have grown up and moved on.
And while fostering has its challenges, Sally is embracing her role as a mother figure again, proving that no matter the chapter, she’ll always find her way back to family.
With Sally Dynevor making it clear that she’s here for the long haul, fans can rest assured that their beloved Sally Metcalfe will remain a staple of Coronation Street for many years to come.
