John McCook’s Emotional Farewell: Will The “Magic” Be Permanently Left Behind As B&B Leaves Its Historic Home After Nearly Half a Century?
Shocking news has just broken, leaving millions of The Bold and the Beautiful fans stunned and deeply moved: after 38 years of broadcasting from the same location, this legendary show is saying goodbye to its beloved home at CBS Television City to move to a new location, Sunset Las Palma Studios. And the one leading us through this emotional parting journey is none other than John McCook, the actor who plays Eric Forrester, the heart and soul of the show since 1987.
John McCook’s history with CBS stretches even further back than B&B. He has been a part of the extended CBS family for nearly five decades, starting with his role as Lance Prentiss on “The Young and the Restless” from 1976. Now, after almost 50 years at CBS Television City, McCook and the entire B&B cast are bidding farewell to their longtime home.
On Instagram, McCook posted an emotional video on his last day at CBS Television City, looking back on his unforgettable journey. A surprising detail was revealed: his first time entering the iconic building wasn’t as an actor, but as a pianist! Music was his first love, and he described that initial experience as “truly magical.” The deep history of the place left a lasting impression on him.
He spoke particularly fondly of Stage 33 – the legendary stage that once hosted The Carol Burnett Show, unforgettable performances from Judy Garland and Red Skelton, and notably, the historic moment when Elvis Presley performed live on The Ed Sullivan Show. McCook shared his fascination with standing in the middle of that stage, closing his eyes, and feeling the lingering “magic,” even though the old shows were long gone. “Even though those shows were gone and not there anymore, that energy and that magic was still there… We put 38 years of magic in this room.”
Now, it’s Stage 31’s turn – B&B’s home for nearly four decades. All the cameras, props, sets, lights, everything will be gone. The place once filled with the laughter, creativity, and energy of the B&B cast and crew will now be empty.
McCook feels this emptiness deeply. He envisions people walking into this vacant room in the future, standing in the middle, and closing their eyes. “If they’re open to it, they will feel the magic,” he says. “Even though we’re all gone, the magic will still be here because we put it here. We put 38 years of magic in this room and in this huge studio. And that will never be gone.”
That stage will forever be remembered as a home to all B&B families. It truly is a bittersweet feeling. Everyone can see how attached they are to Stage 31.
Life goes on, and now B&B will have a new place to call home: Sunset Las Palma Studios. While this change is necessary, the big question remains: Can the “magic” that John McCook and the entire cast and crew created at CBS Television City be carried over and recreated in the new location? Or will a part of the show’s soul forever remain within those historic walls?
No matter what other show – a sitcom, a game show, or even another soap opera – moves into Stage 31, McCook believes that B&B’s “magic” will never be gone, because “it’s our magic. Our magic.” This promises a future that is both full of hope and tinged with deep nostalgia for a golden era gone by.
What are your thoughts on B&B leaving its historic home? Do you think the “magic” will follow them to the new location, or is this the end of a part of the show’s soul? Share your emotions about this moving farewell!
