Coronation Street fans have longer to wait than usual for the next instalment of the ITV soap, as it is pulled from its usual Friday and Monday night slots.

The Manchester-based soap aired an extra episode on Tuesday this week to make up for the fact that it won’t be on tonight.

Instead, ITV is set to air coverage of the World Cup Qualifiers from 7pm, with the football match between England and Albania set to kick off at 7.45pm.

Rival soap Emmerdale has also been affected by the changes, and aired an hour-long episode on Tuesday to make up for tonight’s cancellation.

Disruption to soap schedules is set to continue next week as another World Cup Qualifier, this time seeing England face off with Latvia, airs in place of the ITV soaps.

Fans won’t miss out though, as the episodes originally planned for Monday night will instead air the following day.

Emmerdale will hit our screens at 7pm next Tuesday, followed by Corrie at 8pm, with both episodes available to watch on ITVX from 7am.

Tuesday’s instalment of Coronation Street is set to be a dramatic one, as Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis) holds sister Carla Connor (Alison King) hostage, with a major character set to be shot.

Elsewhere, Sean Tully (Antony Cotton) takes a huge risk for son Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne), Debbie Webster’s (Sue Devaney) feud with Mick Michaelis (Joe Layton) escalates, and Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) has his sights set on a hunky newcomer.

Over in the Dales, Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson) is keen to dig for dirt on Anthony Fox’s whereabouts, much to the horror of some of the locals.

Meanwhile, romance may be in the air for Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) and newcomer Kammy (Shebz Miah), while Ella Forster (Paula Lane) remains hellbent on proving her innocence.

Next year, both soaps are set to face permanent schedule changes as ITV cut back on episodes.

Both soaps will air half an hour episodes every weeknight, with Emmerdale hitting screens at 8pm, followed by Corrie at 8.30pm, creating what bosses are calling a ‘soap power hour’.

The changes are said to reflect research into audience viewing habits, and will be marked by a huge stunt at the beginning of 2026.
