The following article contains spoilers from an episode of Emmerdale that hasn’t aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX.
Ella Forster’s (Paula Lane) little life in the Emmerdale village is falling apart.
This week, Ella arrived at the pub to find Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) and Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) celebrating their engagement. The dynamic was terribly awkward, but Ella was determined to stay and not have her choices dictated by someone else.
Unfortunately, as time went on, Ella became more and more irritated seeing Chas and Liam together. She then bumped into Chas which hurt her already injured back, but whether Ella did it deliberately or not is another thing entirely.
Trouble continued for Chas when she was found by John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) after collapsing. In the hospital, a doctor told Chas that she had taken an overdose. Liam immediately concluded that Chas hadn’t done it to herself and today, it didn’t take him very long at all to decide it was probably Ella.
Liam raced to confront her but as this happened, Ella’s bag fell on the floor. Pills to prove her guilt didn’t fall out, but Chas’ engagement ring did.
As word got round the village that Ella had apparently spiked Chas and stole the ring, Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley) went in search of the truth from her mate. Ella confirmed she did indeed steal Chas’ ring, but didn’t react to the part about drugging her.
Because she was silent and not quick to defend herself, Mandy thought she did do it.
Poor Ella was desperate for Mandy and Manpreet (Rebecca Sarker) to hear her out and believe her.

She had so much to say and she said it with confidence, but given Ella’s past and her history with Liam, she also knew that Mandy and Manpreet wouldn’t think she was telling the complete truth.
Ella was arrested in this episode but released later that day pending further investigation. The development frustrated Chas, who hoped Ella’s arrest would mean she’d no longer be around, and she could get on with her life.
Just before the episode ended, Ella held her head up high and arrived in the pub. She was approached by Chas, who had a deal for her.
Chas told Ella that if she left the village, she would drop the police case. When Manpreet arrived, Ella updated her, but it seems she won’t be going anywhere just yet.
Ella said to Manpreet that it’s awfully strange of Chas to want to stop the investigation, and would only do that if she knows the truth and has something to hide.
Ella decided that Chas took the overdose herself – and now intends to prove it.
