Coronation Street is set to air a dramatic police chase in the coming weeks, with filming taking place today.

The cast and crew of the ITV soap are set to take to the streets of Irlam in Salford as they film the intense scenes.

As well as the chase, there are also set to be scenes filmed in the beer garden and side alley beside Higher Irlam Social Club.

This comes amid reports that officer Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) will die on duty in ‘heroic circumstances’ as he exits the soap.

Actor Colson announced his departure earlier this year in a statement on social media, revealing that he’d known his time on the show was coming to an end for a while.

‘Autumn last year I was told that Craig Tinker’s time on the Cobbles is to come to end in 2025,’ he wrote on Instagram at the time.

‘I’ve loved every single second of my 14 year stay as a resident on the greatest street in the world. I feel incredibly lucky to have grown up in, on and around Coronation Street.

‘I’ve learned pretty much everything about life from the people who call it home. I’m excited to play out the exit story for our Craigy. For me, this is the end of the beginning.

‘I genuinely can’t wait to see what chapter two has in store for me.’

In recent weeks, he received his final scripts, and revealed that it was a ‘lot to process’.

With a dramatic incident involving Weatherfield’s police force looking set to take place, could this be where Craig loses his life?

And with the police officer often reporting to detectives Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) and Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), could they also find themselves in a dangerous situation?

Speaking about stepping away from the cobbles and taking to the streets of Salford for the exciting scenes, unit manager Louise Russell told Salford Now: ‘We like to use local places to film in so that the funds can go directly there and a lot of the time we can donate to communities.

‘That’s kind of what we aim to do when we are out and about filming in these areas.

‘People are generally quite happy to see us there, we try and be as respectful as we possibly can and we have a lot of engagement with the residency nearby to make sure they are happy with what we are doing in the area.’
