There was disappointment everywhere when EJ’s misbehavior was publicized, causing Amy Choi to put the kybosh on Johnny and Chanel adopting her grandson on Days of Our Lives. This has caused Tate and Sophia to try and find another couple to adopt their unborn child. Madelyn Kientz originally played Sophia. The part was recast with Rachel Boyd in February, with the pregnancy storyline well underway when she jumped aboard. Boyd recently talked about how Sophia has been handling things.
Mama in the Making
In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, Boyd was asked about her first thoughts about Sophia. She explained that since taking over the part, things have evolved because Sophia is further along in her pregnancy and continues to deal with “an overbearing mother who wants to take control over the choices that affect Sophia, her life, and her goals.”
With the child getting closer to being born, the actress remarked that her pregnancy issues have superseded any notions that she might have of getting Tate (Leo Howard) to return her feelings. Sophia is currently “motivated by the fact that she needs to get her own life back, and she wants the best life possible for this baby as well.”
Conflicts Cause Ripple Effects
Boyd also noted that Sophia had been focused on her education and where she was going in life, but getting pregnant threw her for a loop. “She was put into a situation where she had to pivot and find a way to make [her pregnancy] work for everyone else,” she explained. The actress further remarked that Sophia’s dichotomy is to put “herself first” while simultaneously trying to please everyone around her.
“You’ll see how that creates other kinds of conflicts for her and harder decisions that she has to make in the future,” she stated. With Leo possibly having wrecked things with Holly (Ashley Puzemis), he may gravitate toward Sophia. And if adoption options don’t present themselves (the rub is that potential parents have to meet Mrs. Choi’s (Shi Ne Nielsen) strict guidelines), Tate and Sophia may end up becoming young parents after all.
