We are once again hit with some HEART-WRENCHING news. Julian McMahon, the unforgettable leading man from another world, has sadly passed away. It’s truly DEVASTATING! So, let’s take a quick look into the life of the actor we all adored.
Hey everyone, welcome to Trend Street.
Born on July 27, 1968, the Aussie-American actor kicked off his acting journey in Australia with the short-lived soap The Power, The Passion. But it wasn’t long before he packed his bags and headed to Hollywood, where he truly made waves – and we do mean SHOCKWAVES!
In 1993, Julian made his American soap debut on Another World, playing the mysterious Ian Rain. And who could forget that legendary first scene? The man rose from the pool in nothing but a speedo, dripping with irresistible charisma, and instantly had viewers glued to their screens. Not only did he make a splash, but his character’s mission to avenge his father gave fans the drama they craved. He may have only appeared in 22 episodes, but Ian Rain became a character fans never forgot.
Still, Julian McMahon was never meant to be boxed into just one genre. His talent, and let’s be real, his EXPLOSIVE screen presence was too big for daytime TV alone. So he moved on to cast his spell on audiences in Charmed where he played the iconic Cole Turner from 2000 to 2003. Whether he was playing a tortured lover or a terrifying demonic villain, fans couldn’t get enough of him. And honestly, they still can’t. From there, McMahon went on to star in the edgy medical drama Nip/Tuck and then made his mark on the big screen, too. He starred alongside Bruce Willis in Red, appeared with Sandra Bullock in Premonition, with Jeff Daniels in Chasing Sleep, and even played as the iconic Dr. Doom in Fantastic 4 twice!
But sadly, it turns out Julian had been privately fighting a serious battle. On July 2nd, 2025, the beloved actor passed away at the age of 56 after a long and hard battle with cancer. “With an open heart, I wish to share with the world that my beloved husband died peacefully this week after a valiant effort to overcome cancer. Julian loved life. He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work. And he loved his fans.”
This news feels even HEAVIER knowing that it comes almost exactly a year after Charmed star Shannen Doherty passed away, also from cancer, on July 13th, 2024. Both of them were such important parts of Charmed, like Cole and Prue, still one of the fan-favorite couples of Charmed. And to lose them just a year apart and to the same illness, is DEVASTATING beyond words for fans around the world.
Rest in peace, Julian McMahon and Shannen Doherty. Gone way too soon, but forever remembered. Let’s all share some love and prayers for the stars in the comments down below.
