Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) has suffered fresh horror in today’s EastEnders.
In last weeks episodes, in the wake of his devastating suicide attempt, we saw him struggling to accept help and adapt to life on the psychiatric unit where he had been admitted.
After befriending another patient called Gaz, Phil began to open up.
He explained that whilst writing his suicide letters, he left one for ex-wife Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) because he still had feelings for her.
Little does he realise, whilst he was receiving care, she had an affair with his brother Grant Mitchell (Ross Kemp), which ultimately destroyed her relationship with Teddy Mitchell (Roland Manookian).

Upon his return to Walford in today’s instalment, that secret was on the brink of exposure…
Phil welcomed his family into his home – which had been tidied up – and thanked them for their overwhelming support during the last month.
Despite Billy (Perry Fenwick), his wife Honey (Emma Barton), their kids and Callum Highway (Tony Clay) being there, there was one notable absence – Sharon.
He told pal Nigel Bates (Paul Bradley) that she wasn’t family, so hadn’t been invited.
Phil then took a big step and braved the outside world for the first time since he had been hospitalised.
There was a brief awkward encounter with George and Elaine Knight (Colin Salmon and Harriet Thorpe) when they asked him how his trip to Portugal had been, but he managed to brush off their questions.

Later, he attended a support meeting with Nigel as he headed towards her house, he noticed Teddy and Nicola Mitchell (Laura Doddington) together.
Obviously realising that they’d reunited, he headed to speak to Sharon. She was overjoyed to see him, but allowed him to believe that she had separated from Teddy due to his reconciliation with Nicola.
But will she tell him the truth?
After leaving Sharons, he visited Nigel at work in the cafe and realised that he was struggling. His young-onset dementia is worsening, and he is reluctant to attend doctors appointments concerning it.
Furious that his secret had been exposed, Nigel shouted out – for all to hear – that Phil had attempted to shoot himself in the head.
Is this just the beginning of more devastation for Phil?.
