Emmerdale looks set to air a surprising revelation over Mary Goskirk next week.
The ITV soap has confirmed that Mary is hiding a secret, which will be explored in an upcoming flashback scene.
Mary was left devastated last week as Suzy Merton lost her life in the tragic limo crash.
She’d had feelings for Suzy for some time, but viewers know that she had reservations about the age gap. Vanessa Woodfield’s return to the Dales last year also led to Mary being pushed out, as Suzy reunited with the village vet.
Next week, the day of Leyla Harding’s funeral arrives, but Vanessa is reluctant to attend after so much grief and heartache. Vanessa texts Mary, explaining that she won’t be coming.
Mary steps in to comfort Vanessa, but seems strangely haunted by the situation that she’s in.
A flashback then shares new insight into the day of the limo crash, letting viewers know why Mary feels so guilty. What is she hiding?
The crash episode saw Suzy appear hesitant around Vanessa as they spent time together in the limo, although the strange dynamic between them has never been fully explained.
Before her final scenes aired, Martelle Edinborough – who played Suzy – teased: “Vanessa leans in to Suzy for a kiss but viewers may see a slight sense of hesitation from Suzy.
“You will have to keep watching future episodes to see why this is.”
Meanwhile, Michelle Hardwick – who plays Vanessa – recently told Digital Spy and other press how her character might react if she finds out that Suzy wasn’t fully committed to their relationship.
Michelle said: “I think she would be absolutely heartbroken, but she probably wouldn’t believe it. She’d be so heartbroken if she found that out, because Vanessa always puts 100% into everything she does. It would break her heart.”
