Coronation Street aired some disturbing scenes as Rob Donovan got violent with Tracy McDonald tonight.
Wednesday’s episode began with Rob still hiding out at Tracy’s, taking painkillers while breathing heavily. He convinced her to go and pick up his passport from a contact in the ginnel, and once he had he could leave.
Unfortunately, she was seen collecting it by Mary Taylor, who believed she was scoring drugs. Mary soon came knocking at the door (“I need cover, my crown has fallen in an Eccles cake, and I need the emergency dentist”) but managed to get rid of her by pretending she and Tommy Orpington were together again.
She returned to the kitchen to find Rob on the floor, with a gun in his hand.
He told her that he thought it could have been the police and wouldn’t have fired at anyone else, but she was adamant that she wouldn’t harbour an armed fugitive and told him he had to go โ then he made a shocking request.
“Come away with me,” he said. “Just think about it. Me and you, a fresh start. Don’t you think me and you deserve a clear field?”
Rob explained that he never stopped loving Tracy, and after everything she’s told him about Tommy, Steve and her dad, she hasn’t got anything keeping her in Weatherfield.
“You’ve lost your mind, Rob,” she retorted.
As Rob talked about how their lives could have been, Tracy took some level of pity on him and used the passport to book him a ferry ticket for tomorrow.
At the police station, DS Swain watched some CCTV featuring a suspected sighting of Rob at the ferry port from the previous week. Believing he had left the country, she, Betsy and Carla Connor toasted to their safety.
In reality, Rob’s infected wound had only gotten worse, and he was getting desperate. He pointed the gun at Tracy again when she wanted to call an ambulance and told her that this time, he would shoot her.
With her phone now in Rob’s hand, Tracy asked him what he’s going to do now he’s in no condition to make it to the ferry. Rob replied that he’s going to see Carla…
