Coronation Street legend Sally Dynevor spoke out about her future on the ITV soap, following the departure of two of her long-term co-stars

Ahead of her huge milestone on Coronation Street next year, Sally Dynevor has opened up about her future plans on the soap. The 62-year-old first became known to viewers back in 1986 when Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) drove past her in his van, and accidentally soaked her as she waited for a bus.
Despite the awkward encounter, the duo went on to marry and had two daughters together; Rosie Webster (Helen Flanagan) and Sophie Webster (Brooke Vincent), before splitting up for a second time.
Sally goes by the same name on the Cobbles, with much of her time on the programme revolving around her love life. Following her final split from Kevin, she moved on with his friend Tim Metcalfe, portrayed by Joe Duttine, and has remained with him ever since.
Their present storyline shows the couple taking on the responsibility of caring for Louise (Farrel Hegarty) and Mick Michaelis’ (Joe Layton) young children, following their arrests for different offences.

“Her own girls have grown up and gone, and this is a new chapter in her life,” the actress said of her character’s fostering responsibilities. “Although it’s hard, she’s really enjoying it.”
In recent years, the ITV favourite has reduced her filming hours, and she’s been relishing the change. As part of her new schedule, she broadened her ITV commitments and joined the Loose Women panel alongside her colleague Sue Cleaver.
In 2026, Sally will celebrate four decades on the soap, and while for some this may seem like the perfect time to move on, the actress isn’t ready to do so just yet.
“I’m not a retiring person. I’ve got such a lovely routine now,” she added to Woman’s Weekly magazine. “I want to keep working, it’s good for my brain. So, if they still want me, maybe I’ll be in the show in my 70s and 80s.
“I’ll just keep going. It’s such a great job and I feel very grateful I’ve still got it after 40 years. I’m not in it as much as I used to be, but I drove in the other day and as the barrier went up I just had this huge smile because it felt like I was home.”

Earlier this year, Sally’s colleague Sue revealed she was departing the programme as Eileen Grimshaw after 25 years. In a statement issued back in January, she said of her exit: “I’ve had 25 privileged years of working on Coronation Street.
“The door is still firmly open, but as I reached my 60th year, I decided it was time to embrace change, look for new adventures and live fearlessly.”
Sue’s announcement followed another popular character, Helen Worth, leaving as Gail Platt in 2024, after 50 years.
“I have been truly blessed to have been given the most incredible scripts week in week out, and to have worked with fantastic actors, directors and a brilliant crew,” she commented when her departure was confirmed.
“The past 50 years have flown by and I don’t think the fact that I am leaving has quite sunk in yet.”
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
