Eileen Grimshaw will confront Julie Carp on Coronation Street after discovering the latter’s funeral discussions.
Julie returned to Weatherfield last month after almost a decade away, though she had some bad news for Todd Grimshaw and George Shuttleworth as she informed them that she was terminally ill.
Despite letting them know the news, Julie didn’t tell her half-sister Eileen, though the latter suspects that something is up during Monday’s (March 10) episode as she overhears Julie discussing funeral plans with George.
Eileen later confronts Julie, demanding to know the truth – will Julie tell her the devastating news, or will she find a way to delay the inevitable?
Julie’s return saw Katy Cavanagh reprise her role, with the star sharing her excitement as she said: “It is exciting to dust off Julie’s quirky wardrobe again and an absolute joy to step back onto the cobbles. Julie is so much fun, I’ve missed her.”
“I think she is a bit shocked that people love her as much as they do – that they want her and that they want to take care of her,” she added about the storyline. “It overwhelms her. She sort of exists in her own little world, and doesn’t think anyone will care that much.”
The character’s return will facilitate the departure of Eileen, with Sue Cleaver announcing in January that she will exit the soap after 25 years in the role, saying: “I’ve had 25 privileged years of working on Coronation Street.”
“The door is still firmly open but as I reached my 60th year I decided it was time to embrace change, look for new adventures and live fearlessly,” she continued, with executive producer Kate Brooks describing the actor as “wonderful”
