Emmerdale has confirmed which character died on arrival in the limousine crash storyline.
Multiple characters are currently fighting for their lives following the dramatic accident, with Suzy Merton the first casualty. But Tuesday’s (February 19) episode revealed a second fatality.
Picking up where things left off, this latest instalment began with the four emergency vehicles arriving at the hospital where Jacob Gallagher was on shift.
He soon came across Charity Dingle looking after a barely-conscious Noah, who had seemingly been spiked, and learned about the crash.
He desperately searched for mum Leyla Harding and saw Amy Wyatt and Liam Cavanagh in critical conditions on the way.
Eventually, he managed to find Leyla… lifeless in the morgue.
He refused to believe it, telling the doctor to do something.
“She’s still warm! Why are you standing there? Why aren’t you trying to save her?” he insisted.
Unfortunately, the doctor told him it was too late, and Leyla has died from severe blood loss before she even arrived at the hospital.
Jacob said goodbye to his mum and apologised for not being there for her. Sarah Sugden eventually entered the morgue and hugged him as he wept.
“Devastated to have lost Leyla! What a character. I’m tearing up so much after Jacob this is so sad,” wrote one fan on X/Twitter, while another said: “Layla being DOA and Jacob being on duty has hit me.”
A fourth viewer commented: “Crying my eyes out at #emmerdale Jacob looking for his mum, Leyla, and finding she’d passed was heartbreaking.”
Another praised Jacob actor Joe-Warren Plant for his goodbye speech to Leyla’s body.
Elsewhere in the hospital, the other villagers had to process the news of Suzy and Leyla’s deaths and tried to keep it together not knowing if Amy and Liam were going to pull through.
As the episode approached its cliffhanger, it seemed like Amy might not make it as she began to flatline as Matty Barton and Kerry Wyatt called for help.
