Coronation Street spoilers follow from Friday’s episode (March 28), which is available to watch now on streaming service ITVX but hasn’t yet aired on ITV1.
Coronation Street’s Betsy Swain makes an upsetting discovery about her mum Lisa’s hostage drama in Friday’s episode (March 28).
The traumatised teen questions her mother’s priorities after learning how Lisa put herself in the firing line to save Carla Connor.
Viewers saw Lisa boldly arrive at Ken Barlow’s house this week after learning that Carla’s brother Rob Donovan was holding her hostage inside.
Lisa’s heroics gave her the opportunity to wrestle the gun from Rob and take control of the situation. However, there were shocking consequences as the weapon was fired in the chaos and a bullet hit Betsy, who was outside.
In Friday’s episode, Lisa, Betsy and Carla all continue to deal with the consequences of their dramatic ordeal.
After Lisa recently turned against Carla by unfairly blaming her for everything, Betsy intervenes to get the popular couple back on track. Lisa apologises to Carla for lashing out when emotions were running high.
Later, during another visit to her daughter in hospital, Lisa decides that it’s time to be honest with Betsy about how the shooting happened.
As Betsy presumes that Rob fired the gun, Lisa sets the record straight by explaining that it was her hand on the trigger.
The revelation provokes a surprising response from Betsy, who instead focuses on Lisa’s decision to wade into the hostage situation in the first place. Betsy points out the similarities to her other mum Becky losing her life in the line of duty.
Betsy explains: “I don’t blame you for the gun going off. But why didn’t you wait for armed police? You weren’t worried about me being an orphan.
“He had a gun, you didn’t – what did you think was going to happen? You just wanted to be the big hero, that’s all you were thinking about. You weren’t thinking about me.
“I’m not the most important thing in your life – your job is, just like it was for mum. She was killed trying to play the big hero and now you nearly were too.”
