In 1923 Season 2, Episode 4, Spencer Dutton faces life-threatening challenges as he struggles to return to Montana. Portrayed by Brandon Sklenar, Spencer finds himself caught in a dangerous situation after arriving in America. Upon landing in Galveston, he is forced into a risky mission, transporting illegal alcohol to Fort Worth, Texas. However, his troubles escalate when he is taken into custody by a police officer investigating his involvement in the smuggling operation.

While trying to evade capture, Spencer boards an eastbound train that pulls him even farther from his intended destination. His journey becomes even more perilous when he encounters three threatening hobos in the same train car. With no food or money to appease them, Spencer is forced to defend himself. Despite his skills as a hunter and soldier, he struggles to stay safe while on the run. When the hobos demand he “pay a tax” to remain in the car, Spencer refuses to back down. Armed with his revolver, he prepares for a fight.

The confrontation turns violent as Spencer manages to shoot and kill the two male hobos. In the chaos, he throws the female hobo against the train wall but loses his balance and falls off the moving train. Now stranded in the middle of nowhere, Spencer is left vulnerable and without a clear path forward. Meanwhile, the police officer who detained him earlier remains on his trail, adding to his growing list of dangers.

Spencer’s decision to leave the bodies behind suggests he fears being implicated in the murders if they are discovered. With 1923 Season 2 already halfway through and confirmed to be the final season, fans eagerly await his arrival in Montana. While it may not happen immediately, Spencer is expected to reach the Dutton ranch by the season’s end—possibly in Episode 6—to play a crucial role in the family’s battle against Banner Creighton and Donald Whitfield.
