The following article contains spoilers from an episode of Emmerdale that hasn’t aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX.
Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) has been rushed to hospital in Emmerdale after seemingly overdosing on her painkillers.
The character has been taking medication since the limo crash disaster last month. Yesterday, we learnt Chas was still experiencing problems with her back when Ella Forster (Paula Lane) ‘accidentally’ bumped into her.
Chas yelped in pain and immediately accused Ella of hurting her deliberately. In tonight’s episode, she took more tablets to help manage her symptoms, but Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) said that Chas really shouldn’t be working in the pub if her back issues are still that bad.
As Liam left for work and Chas carried on with her jobs in the Woolpack, John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) was in the café with Victoria (Isabel Hodgins). He had been given a day off at the surgery, and was pretty bored.
He passed the time by opening up to Vic about how he thinks Chas doesn’t like him. Vic told her brother that grand gestures such as the engagement party aren’t that important to Chas, but what is vital to her is that someone is loyal, supportive, and looks after Aaron (Danny Miller).
When John and Vic arrived in the pub hoping to speak with Chas, they found the place empty. Moments later, they spotted Chas lying unconscious on the floor after she passed out.

John jumped at the chance to help Chas, who was then rushed to hospital.
In the ward, a doctor explained to Chas and her loved ones that she experienced an overdose of drugs in her system. They were all taken aback, and Chas told her family that she hadn’t developed a reliance on her painkillers.
Outside, Liam told Aaron and John that he would’ve noticed if Chas was taking her medication too often and if he didn’t, her prescription would’ve ran out anyways.
As a result, it suggests that Chas was spiked and suffered a sudden increase in the drug – a bit like Noah (Jack Downham).
So, it begs the question – who was responsible?
If Ella is too obvious, could it be John?
Given how helpful he was in the aftermath of Anthony’s murder, does former member of the army John live with a hero complex?
Did he deliberately drug Chas, knowing he could leap into action to save her and therefore, be praised by her and the family later down the line?
