As she continues to investigate the mysterious disappearance of her grandfather, Anthony (Nicholas Day),
her suspicions intensify—leading her to a discovery that could expose a deadly secret.
Steph Grows Suspicious
For weeks, viewers have watched as a fragile pact has held the truth about Anthony’s fate under wraps.
Those involved—including Caleb (William Ash), Ruby (Beth Cordingly), Aaron (Danny Miller), Cain (Jeff Hordley), and Chas (Lucy Pargeter)—
have been maintaining the story that Anthony simply left the village. But the reality is far darker.
Anthony, a man with a sinister past, was confronted by Caleb after his horrific abuse of Ruby came to light. Not only had he hurt Ruby, but he was also revealed to be the biological father of Steph. The confrontation escalated further when Aaron, still haunted by his own childhood trauma, lashed out and gave Anthony a brutal beating. However, it was Ruby who ultimately ended Anthony’s life, finding him badly injured and finishing what Aaron had started.
John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth), who mistakenly believed Aaron had killed Anthony, took it upon himself to dispose of the body to protect him. Now, with so many people aware of what really happened, keeping the secret under control is proving more difficult—especially as Steph grows more determined to uncover the truth.
The Tension Rises
Steph has sensed for a while that her family is keeping something from her. The situation becomes even more suspicious when she receives a call from one of Anthony’s friends, who was expecting to meet him. Ruby’s reaction to this unexpected phone call only fuels Steph’s growing paranoia.
Desperate for answers, Steph begins piecing things together, playing detective as she tries to unravel the mystery of her grandfather’s disappearance.
“She’s really clever and she’s putting it all together slowly,” Georgia Jay revealed, hinting that Steph is closer than ever to discovering the truth.
Caleb, realizing how dangerous Steph’s investigation could be, enlists Ross (Mike Parr) to try and deter her. However, the plan backfires spectacularly when something Ross says piques Steph’s interest even more.
“She gets this insight with Ross, figuring out that something’s not right with him as well,” Georgia explained.
A Shocking Discovery
Following her instincts, Steph makes a bold move—she searches the safe. What she finds inside shakes her to the core: a revolver.
Unbeknownst to her, this is the very same weapon that Caleb had used in a tense confrontation with Anthony, playing a terrifying game of Russian roulette. Convinced she has just uncovered the murder weapon, Steph wastes no time in demanding answers.
She storms straight to Caleb, gun in hand, and demands an explanation. Caleb, caught off guard, quickly fabricates a story to throw her off the trail. He claims that the gun was never meant for Anthony but was instead used as a threat against Cain after he found out about Ruby’s affair.
“He is straight away very defensive and comes up with some story that it was used as a threat for Cain after he found out about Ruby and Cain together,” Georgia explained. “He’s quite quick on it and comes up with quite an elaborate story which has a bit of truth, so he’s quick on his feet to think of that.”
A Dangerous Confrontation
However, Steph isn’t so easily convinced. Instead of accepting Caleb’s version of events, she immediately goes to find Cain, determined to see if he will back up the story.
This puts Cain in a difficult position. His relationship with Caleb has been fraught with tension ever since the limo crash and Caleb’s explosive revelation about Cain’s affair with Ruby. Caleb had even tried to frame Cain for Anthony’s murder, making it highly unlikely that Cain would be willing to cover for him.
With Steph closing in on the truth, the situation is set to take an even more dramatic turn. Will Cain stick to Caleb’s version of events? Or will Steph finally uncover the dark secret that everyone has been trying to keep from her?
