First, we learned how the Rafe-swap story would be ending on Days of Our Lives when Stephanie finally put the pieces together and realized that Arnold may still be alive. Unfortunately, she got there by being utterly grossed out by “Rafe” and recalling how Arnold was a “world class creep.”

As she told Alex, when it comes to the DiMeras, death usually doesn’t mean what the rest of it thinks it means. Arnold could be and likely is still alive. So the two wasted no time in filling Gabi and Jada in on the revelation. (Which, we could tell by Jada’s less-than-thrilled face, she clearly realized means she technically cheated on Rafe with Shawn.)

There’s still some work to do, but it’s clear the storyline is going to be wrapping up soon. And, after today’s episode, we’re pretty sure we know when that soon is. Because there was one other storyline taking shape as Stephanie spread the world about Arnold: The hospital fundraiser.

Chad and Cat set about enthusiastically planning a big street fair affair, complete with a bachelor auction. With the trouble the hospital’s in, they’re going to have to make the fundraiser happen sooner, rather than later. And if we know Days of Our Lives and how things work in Salem, a big event means big drama and big revelations.

Something like saving the hospital will draw practically the entire town, and if there’s a bachelor auction, it’s going to need eligible bachelors to be in it. Maybe known names around the town like Chad, EJ (depending on whether he and Belle land on a relationship status)… and the newly reinstated Salem PD commissioner, Rafe Hernandez.

That would be the perfect time to blow Arnold’s cover out of the water, exposing him, EJ and all their sordid dealings in front of everyone. Heck, we know Gabi would happily do it. She used EJ’s press conference to ruin his life with Nicole. And with all they’ve put Jada through, humiliating her at her own wedding? Oh, we can totally see her using the chance to destroy EJ and Arnold’s lives at the fundraiser.

So our bet? The fundraiser’s going to be put together in record time and once that happens, the Rafe switch story will be as good as over.
