Days of our Lives teased viewers for weeks with the question of who was out to sabotage the Body & Soul reboot. There were the poisoned cupcakes, the stolen spoilers, Bonnie’s accident, and all those tainted scripts. We were encouraged to wonder who was X’ing out all those 8 x 10 glossy photos. And then we found out. And then it was over. Huh? What?
Fake Out
Heck, outing Kerry (Derek Yates) as the one who slept with Leo (Greg Rikaart) and stole Body & Soul’s long story took more episodes and involved Leo, Javi (Al Calderon), Marlena (Deidre Hall), as well as an oh, so clever plot. And we didn’t even know Kerry. Or care about him.
It was used to “reunite” Leo and Javi, when they’d barely been together in the first place. We sat through weeks of their drama. Only to learn that Kerry wasn’t behind the cupcakes or the other “accidents.”
In and Out Burger
On Wednesday, February 5, Salem—or, rather, Abe (James Reynolds)—came face to face with the true culprit: Hey, there, again, Nurse Whitley (Kim Coles)! She explained the method behind her madness: She didn’t like the changes Abe and Kate (Lauren Koslow) were making to her beloved Body & Soul.
And when Nurse Whitley read in (because everybody reads Soap Hub, why wouldn’t they?) that Kayla (Mary Beth Evans), a non-actress, was coming on board, she’d finally had enough.
Whitley escaped her mental hospital and commenced a crime spree. She poisoned every single script. And then she confessed to Abe. And then Paulina (Jackée Harry) knocked her out. And then Whitley was recaptured—the end.
Day By Day
This all happened in one day. One. Day. Does DAYS know it’s a soap? Not a primetime show? Not a movie? The whole point of soap is that the stories go on for days, weeks, even. The antici…(hold for Rocky Horror Show pause)…pation is part of what keeps us tuning in. Everything felt rushed and unsatisfying. We can only hope there is more to the story (and of course, more Soap Hub reading).
