The North Texas city of Ferris will serve as the primary shooting location for the upcoming Paramount+ show called Rio Palo, according to an Aug. 7 press release from the city. Ferris is located about 50 miles from Fort Worth and about 20 miles from downtown Dallas, with a population just over 5,000.
“This is a proud and fun moment for Ferris,” Ferris City Manager Brooks Williams said in the news release.
The production will be coordinated by King Street Productions, which has produced Sheridan’s other Paramount+ shows including Yellowstone, alongside the writer-director’s production company Bosque Ranch Productions. According to the city, the project will showcase Ferris to a national audience and attract local economic investment.
“The production will highlight the charm, versatility, and visual appeal of the community, positioning Ferris on a national stage and capturing its unique character for audiences around the world,” the city said in a statement.
There are not many details available regarding Rio Palo other than that it is a spin-off of Yellowstone. No cast announcements or logline for the series have been released, but the press release from Ferris revealed that the show will feature a location serving as the central home of its lead characters, and that filming will take place in various spots around the town.
According to Texas-based Legacy Casting, Rio Palo will also shoot in Cleburne, Weatherford and Rio Vista later this month in addition to Ferris. Social media posts also claim that the show is filming in Mineral Wells this week.
Rio Palo joins the upcoming western spinoffs Dutton Ranch, which will star Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly, who will reprise their Yellowstone roles as Rip Wheeler and Beth Dutton, as well as Y: Marshalls, which will tell the story of Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) joining the U.S Marshalls in Montana, and The Madison, which is set to premiere sometime in 2025.
Sheridan, a major supporter of Texas’ effort to become a filming destination, continues to grow his film production footprint in Texas with the announcement and production of his latest Yellowstone spin-off. The Texas native has recently leased multiple production studios in North Texas, which will provide sets for his growing slate of television shows shot in the state.
