A New ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff Will Be Filmed in This North Texas City

In the world of Taylor Sheridan, it’s clear that the Yellowstone creator has his hands all over North Texas, and now it looks like he’s adding yet another exciting project to the region. Ferris, a small town of just 4,000 people located 20 miles south of Dallas, has announced that a brand new Yellowstone spinoff will be filmed there.

The show, titled Rio Palo (which translates to “stick river” in Spanish), will bring more of Sheridan’s signature storytelling to the Lone Star State. While the title doesn’t yet offer many clues about how it fits into the Yellowstone universe, the show’s premise remains shrouded in mystery. There are, however, many speculations as to whether this could be connected to a project involving fan favorites Beth and Rip, or perhaps even the Four Sixes Ranch spinoff or the Y: Marshals series featuring Kayce Dutton.

Yellowstone' filming final scenes in Texas

Ferris officials have confirmed that filming will take place across various locations within the city, with one undisclosed spot set to serve as the “central home of the show’s lead characters.” As fans of Sheridan’s work know, the filming locations often add an authentic, almost cinematic feel to the project, and Ferris will surely provide the backdrop for something special.

Ferris has long been known for its Ferris Brick Company, whose bricks can be found in streets, schools, and courthouses across the nation. City Manager Brooks Williams shared the pride the town feels about being selected for such a high-profile project: “Ferris helped build Texas and the nation. But that is just part of who we are. Ferris has never settled for being one thing. This city has evolved, adapted, and grown. Paramount’s decision to film here is one more chapter in that story. It affirms that a place with roots can still move forward, that a city shaped by history can also shape what comes next.”6666'—What To Know About the Texas-Based 'Yellowstone' Spin-off | Woman's World

Though a start date for filming has not yet been announced, fans of the Yellowstone franchise are eagerly awaiting any new developments, especially given Sheridan’s recent track record in the area. The creator is already working on the second season of Landman, which prominently features Fort Worth, and has filmed Yellowstone and 1883 in various parts of Texas.

With Rio Palo joining the ranks of these other ambitious projects, it’s clear that Sheridan’s influence in North Texas is only growing. Whether or not this spinoff will involve familiar faces or introduce a whole new set of characters, fans are sure to be in for another wild ride when the show finally debuts.
